BRN: Bristodeli Café [Takeaway]

How does its signature beef noodle fare?

On the day when my BFF and I had to check-out of Badi'ah Hotel, we requested for a slightly later check-out as we'd like to have lunch first in the room before leaving. We bought food from Bristodeli Café, which is located next to the lobby of the hotel. From what I managed to gather from the Internet, it used to be Délifrance.

The eatery is quite well-known for its beef noodle soup.

Satay Kajang (Chicken) B$6.00 (=S$6.00)
Taste: 7/10

Kajang is the name of the largest town in Selangor, Malaysia. The twelve sticks of chicken satay that we ordered as an appetiser weren't too sweet, thankfully. The meat was acceptably tender, but the pale-looking peanut sauce lacked the kick. Pika's advice: Instead of chicken, you can have beef, lamb or a mix of meat.

Beef Noodle Soup B$5.90 (=S$5.90)
Taste: 7/10

Supposedly one of the stars of the eatery, the beef noodle soup was pretty aromatic, but it definitely wasn't the richest I've ever tried thus far. Swimming inside the broth were beef slices, tripes, tendons, intestines, meatballs and radish cubes. The chili sauce was really spicy.

Butter Milk Fish with Rice B$6.00 (=S$6.00)
Taste: 8/10

It's said that Bruneians have a heartfelt love for the combination of butter and milk with everything. I enjoyed the lightly battered fish slices that were deep-fried and subsequently tossed with sweet and creamy sauce. The dish was made aromatic with the addition of curry leaves.

Crème Brûlée B$2.00 (=S$2.00)
Taste: 4/10

That was the cheapest French delight that I've ever had, and certainly the worst too. I'm pretty sure no one would recognise the supposed custard dessert from its messy appearance. Anyway, while the harder layer wasn't that bad, the cream was cloying and a bit stale.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10

Don't miss Kampong Ayer, the water village that's situated at Brunei Bay.
