BRN: Royal Brunei Airlines [Economy, International, Short-Haul]

At least the sago pudding was pretty nice~

I'm pretty sure you can immediately guess where my BFF and I'd be going by looking at the title of the review. We decided to fly one way with the flag carrier of the Sultanate of Brunei from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei and to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia as it was much cheaper compared to starting our journey from Singapore.

Both main courses offered for lunch turned out to be rice-based dishes.

RB Meal

Macaroni Salad Taste: 4/10

I didn't really enjoy the cold macaroni salad as it came with a kind of dressing that was too heavy. Moreover, the macaroni pieces were kinda soft for my liking. They were tossed with chopped bell peppers of three colours and olives.

Stewed Beef with Fried Rice Taste: 7/10

The stewed beef came to save the lunch, thanks to its tenderness. The fried rice was quite flavourful, but just a tad dry, while the carrots and long beans weren't overcooked.

Soy Sauce Chicken with Rice Taste: 6/10

The dark-looking chicken was pretty tender, although it was a bit on the salty side. The acar (lit. pickles) wasn't good as it was pretty sweet without a hint of sour at all.

Sago Pudding with Melon Sauce Taste: 7.5/10

The best item that afternoon was the dessert. The pink-coloured pudding studded with small sago balls had no strawberry or any fruity flavours whatsoever, accompanied by mildly sweet melon sauce.

Beverages

I requested for a cup of orange juice, which came with a cube of ice by default, as well as a cup of tea that was pretty strong. Pika's advice: Do note that Royal Brunei Airlines is a dry airline, but you can bring your own alcoholic drinks and consume them onboard.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 6.5/10

For flights from Bandar Seri Begawan to Kota Kinabalu and vice versa, the airline only offers a welcome drink as the flight time is only around 20 minutes.
