BRN: Thien Thien Restaurant [Takeaway]

Wait, there's 天天鸡饭 in Brunei?

Truth be told, even though I live at Chinatown here in Singapore, I've never actually patronised 天天海南鸡饭 (Tian Tian Chicken Rice) at Maxwell Food Centre. Apparently, there's an eatery that goes by almost the same name in Brunei: 天天餐室 (Thien Thien Restaurant), which is also well-known for its chicken rice. I don't think they're related though.

My BFF and I ordered from the original branch at Jalan Batu Satu, which is a stone's throw away from Badi'ah Hotel.

Nasi Ayam B$3.20 (=S$3.20)
Taste: 7.5/10

I found the highly raved chicken rice to be more than edible, but certainly not excellent. While the chicken meat was clean and tender, the rice wasn't as fragrant as expected. Also, the chili sauce was just a bit too watery. The cucumber slices took me by surprise as they were really juicy and sweet.

Laksa B$2.50 (=S$2.50)
Taste: 8/10

What I enjoyed more was the kway teow (Chinese flat noodle) in spicy curry-based soup that was savoury without being too rich. It came with fish cakes, thin slices of shrimps and chopped spring onions. Pika's advice: I was trying to be a bit adventurous by requesting for kway teow. You can choose rice noodle or vermicelli.

Kolo Mee B$2.00 (=S$2.00)
Taste: 6/10

The eatery's take on the favourite Sarawakian dry noodle dish wasn't impressive. While the taste was acceptable, it was a tad too wet for my liking. The noodle wasn't particularly springy either. Accompanying the noodle were fish cakes, eggs, beansprouts and fried shallots

Before going to Thien Thien Restaurant to order our lunch, we went to Tasek Lama Recreational Park, which is one of the oldest nature reserves in town.
