SIN: Haig Road Putu Piring @ Haig Road Market & Food Centre
Heart-warming 'putu piring' to cap the volatile year!
Can you believe that 2021 is going to be over soon? Happy New Year in advance to everyone, and let's hope that 2022 will be kinder to all of us. I don't usually make new year resolutions, but perhaps I can write a bit more on hawker centre stalls, starting with the well-known Haig Road Putu Piring that's been around since 1985.
Putu Piring (5 pcs) S$2.50
Taste: 8.5/10
For the uninitiated, putu piring is a Malay disc-like steamed cake made of rice flour filled with palm sugar, a derivation of the Indian puttu. Made on the spot, the traditional cakes were delectably fluffy and spongy. They were made aromatic by the presence of pandan leaves.
I was actually hoping for the palm sugar to be less solid, but anyway, the small chunks melted in the mouth easily. The sweetness was well-balanced by the freshly grated coconut seasoned with a bit of salt.

Pika's advice: Take a look at their website to see other things that you can get besides putu piring. I've included the link below.
