THA: Thai Airways TG409 (Economy)

Yummy yam and coconut cake for dessert!

After the delectable meals onboard Austrian Airlines OS25, let's take a look at the catering onboard Thai Airways TG409 in the Economy Class from Bangkok, Thailand to Singapore. Alas, I lost all photos that I took during the flight, so I'm borrowing those taken by my BFF to feature here. This post shall finally wrap up my Azerbaijan travel series.

TG Meal

Tuna Salad - Taste: 6/10

A small plate of tuna salad with a local touch was served as an appetiser. Mixed with a bit of chili slices, herbs and shallots, the canned tuna flakes were drizzled with some lemon juice to give it a zing.

Red Chicken Curry with Rice - Taste: 6/10

I wasn't too sure whether the red curry was supposed to be the dry version or it simply didn't have enough gravy, but I wasn't complaining as it was quite tasty and spicy enough for my liking. The chicken pieces were adequately tender. Unfortunately, the rice wa a tad dry and the stir-fried pickled turnips was rather soggy.

Baked Fish Fillet with Mashed Potatoes Taste: 6.5/10

The fish main course fared better. Taking up slightly more than a third of the dish, the fillet was quite firm and fresh, paired with mustard sauce that was pretty tangy and creamy. While the mashed potatoes weren't so velvety, they were milky. Alas, the carrot strips were rather overcooked.

Yam and Coconut Cake Taste: 8/10

The highlight of the meal was the traditional dessert of sweet yam and coconut cake, which was delectably rich and creamy. Had it been given a tad more salt to balance the sweetness, it would've been even more decadent.

Bread

The pre-packed bun was alright as it was neither hard nor dry. It came with a pack of unsalted butter.

Beverages

I appreciated the bottled water that came with the tray. I don't have any photos, but I had a cup of orange juice, followed by hot tea that was decent.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

With that, I shall close this chapter and move on to publish some posts on restaurants in Singapore once again. Pika's advice: If you're a Royal Orchid Plus Platinum or Gold member, you can pre-select your in-flight meal up to 72 hours prior to departure even when flying in the Economy Class.
