JPN: Le Saigonnais International Lounge @ Tan Son Nhat International Airport

Free-flowing Vietnamese sticky rice, anyone?

Without having done any prior research, I couldn’t help but find it amusing that the hotel I stayed at happened to share a similar name with the lounge I visited at Tan Son Nhat International Airport before flying back to Singapore. With such a tasteful ambience, I was curious to see if the food and beverages would be just as delightful.

While Vietnamese cuisine isn’t among my top favourites, I was glad to see some local dishes available in the buffet spread.

Assorted Stuff #1

As usual, I started off with some vegetables, which turned out to be fresh and crisp enough. There were some cold cuts available, but I just helped myself to a slice each of ham and cheese to go along.

Assorted Stuff #2

From the assortment of cooked items, I enjoyed the Vietnamese sticky rice with braised pork the most. There were quite a number of chicken and pork dishes, along with vegetable frittata that added a nice touch of variety to the spread.

Rice Noodle Soup

It was a comforting and refreshing bowl of Vietnamese rice noodle soup that hit all the right spots. I enjoyed the springy texture of the thick rice noodles, which soaked up the clean broth that struck a pleasant sweet-and-salty balance. Besides slices of chicken and pork, there were beansprouts that added a nice crunch.

Vietnamese Fried Spring Rolls

The golden-brown roll was irresistibly crispy, filled with minced pork that was pretty juicy and well-seasoned. I purposely let them sit on lettuce leaves not only for the photo, but also to make me consume more vegetables to feel a little less guilty. I probably should've taken some fish sauce, but Thousand Island dressing made a nice accompaniment too.

Dessert & Fruits

Alongside a few sweet treats that were just so-so, I had a croissant with butter and strawberry jam. It was nice to have some passion fruit and crunchy jicama before ending it off with a small banana.

Beverages

I tried a milky orange beverage and a bit of Vodka Hanoi made of fermented glutinous rice. In addition, I also had a cup of black coffee that was strong and bold enough.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 6.5/10

All in all, I walked away feeling pretty satisfied with the food and beverages offered by the lounge. Pika's advice: Vegetarians, rejoice! You'll be delighted to know there's a dedicated corner on the buffet line for you.
