HKG: Hui Lau Shan
Happy t(h)ree friends: mango, coconut and glutinous rice!
Who doesn't love desserts? Please raise your hand (or rather, leave a comment) if you don't haha... Apparently the most popular establishment with many branches spread throughout HK, Hui Lau Shan is known for its healthy dessert concoctions. "I'd love to try as many of their creations as possible!", I thought, but in the end, I only tried two of them throughout the entire duration of the exchange programme.
Black Glutinous Rice in Mango and Coconut Juice with Extra Mango HK$29.00 (~S$4.80)
Taste: 8.5/10
The cold dessert might look very sweet, but actually it wasn't the case. The mango bits weren't at their ripest stage, lending a balanced sweet and sour touch to the addictively sweet and sticky glutinous rice. The coconut juice bound everything nicely with its slightly salty, savoury taste.
Stewed Soup with Yacon, Sea Coconut and White Fungi HK$24.00 (~S$4.00)
Taste: 8/10
The hot dessert was pretty hearty without being overly sweet. Yacon is a kind of tuberous plant which edible part has a slightly sweet taste with a texture comparable to that of jicama, or what I usually call bangkwang. The white fungi and sea coconut bits were crunchy, while the peach cubes were soft.

The branch in The Lane Shopping Centre next to the Hang Hau MTR station is pretty small in size, but it wasn't crowded at all when I dropped by there.
