BAH: Coco's

Does coriander and lemon rice sound interesting to you?

On the last day of our stay in Bahrain, my BFF and I walked to the trendy neighbourhood of Adliya again. Said to be one of the Kingdom's culinary gems, Coco's serves an extensive variety of international dishes at its rustic colonial building and garden.

We had a late lunch at around 3.20pm. Not surprisingly, there was a queue at such an hour and we had to wait for approximately 20 minutes to get a table. Anyway, the restaurant doesn't accept reservations.

Pumpkin and Tomato Soup BHD 1.700 (~S$6.00)
Taste: 8/10

Afraid that a jacket potato would be too much for appetiser by looking at the price, we decided to share a bowl of cream of pumpkin and tomato. It was executed well, although I've had something more velvety elsewhere. On hindsight, I should've gone for the seemingly more interesting Spinach and Tomato Soup for the same price.

Ravioli BHD 3.300 (~S$11.65)
Taste: 8.5/10

For something Italian, you may want to give the ravioli a try. The homemade pockets were filled filled with ground beef and a bit of ricotta cheese, cooked till al dente. They were then tossed with tomato sauce that was creamy and not cloying at all, but it could be a bit sweeter.

Mediterraneo BHD 3.900 (~S$13.75)
Taste: 8.5/10

I was interested in the coriander and lemon rice dishes as many people were ordering them. It was hard to make a decision, but we ended up with the grilled white fish and shrimps that were fresh and marinated well. The accompanying salad was equally fresh and crisp with refreshingly tangy dressing.

Date Cake BHD 1.700 (~S$6.00)
Taste: 7/10

Never had it crossed my mind that a date cake would be presented in a style similar to that of an apple crumble. It was actually delightful with the dates melting in my mouth, but I bet I wouldn't be able to finish it if I were to eat it alone as it was pretty sweet. It could definitely do less with the sweetened condensed milk.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

Here's the gate that you need to locate since the restaurant doesn't have any signboards at all. Literally a hidden gem! Pika's advice: You may want to look into a selection of Iced Tea that's apparently quite popular among regulars.
