SIN: YOTEL Singapore [Breakfast]

Didn't expect the salad to be so fresh!

As overseas travel is still very much restricted, I continue to entertain myself by going for staycations here in Singapore. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to stay at YOTEL Singapore (4*) at Orchard Road for one night during the Chinese New Year period. Breakfast set is offered for each guest staying at the contemporary hotel.

Western Breakfast
Taste: 6.5/10

You probably won't go hungry after having the Western breakfast platter. The scrambled eggs were acceptably moist and creamy. The other hot items - chicken sausages, bacon, hash brown and roasted cherry tomatoes were pretty standard. Besides pre-packaged waffles topped with a little bit of maple syrup, there were one white toast and one wholemeal toast. Pika's advice: I'm not sure if it's any better, but perhaps you may want to opt for Eggs Benedict instead.

Nasi Lemak
Taste: 6/10

The rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves was just a little bit aromatic, but I was happy with how the sunny-side up sitting on top of it turned out to be, as well as the crunchy peanuts with anchovies. I thought the spiced fish cake could be firmer and having more kick on the taste buds. Even though the chili was spicy enough, it was one-dimensional tastewise.

Assorted Stuff

In addition to a main course, each person is entitled to a typical assortment of continental breakfast items. I found the salad to be really fresh and crisp, topped with an adequate amount of Thousand Island dressing. While the croissant and the chocolate danish could be crispier, they were buttery alright. To my satisfaction, the chocolate muffin was rich.

White Coffee & Orange Juice

As I happened to be seated near the coffee machine, I knew my white coffee would come from there. It was nothing fanciful, but drinkable. At least it didn't taste acidic. As for the chilled orange juice, it came from a package, which was a tad too sweet for my liking.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Breakfast is served at the hotel's only restaurant-cum-bar named Komyuniti.
