SIN: Taiker Song [Takeaway] {CLOSED}

"A bento meal. A music tune. A piece of memories."

UPDATE (01/12/2023): The eatery has closed down.

A rather quirky café that's located across the street from Amoy Street Food Centre, Taiker Song is a portmanteau of Taiwan, Rocker and Song. I suppose music must be an important part of the café experience, but that's something that I didn't get as I had to do takeaway due to the no dine-in rule.

Night Market Life S$9.90
Taste: 6.5/10

夜市人生 is a Taiwanese television drama that began airing in late 2009. Don't you miss the experience of hopping from one night market to another in Taiwan? Sitting on a bed of rice, the chicken chunks seasoned well with salt and pepper managed to retain some crunch after being covered for about 15 minutes. They were accompanied by deep-fried sweet potato cubes and pickle slaw that could use a litle bit more mayonnaise.

High High Sea Life S$10.90
Taste: 7/10

If the name of the dish sounds rather funny, its Chinese name (海海人生) actually refers to a rather old Hokkien song. In addition to the typical deep-fried prawns topped with tartar sauce, there were two pieces of steamed fish topped with preserved vegetables and salted black beans that I found to be adequately savoury. Additionally, there were cherry tomatoes and chuka wakame (Japanese seasoned sesame seaweed salad).

Pearl Milk Tea S$4.50
Taste: 4.5/10

Since it's a Taiwanese café, I just had to put the boba tea into the acid test. Though drinkable, it was rather disappointing. Firstly, I have to mention that the milk tea itself with 25% sugar was somewhat thin. The biggest problem, however, was with the tapioca pearls as they weren't bouncy at all. At least they didn't get stuck in between my teeth.

Do share your experience if you've been to Taiker Song. Pika's advice: If you're interested, the café serves a selection of alcoholic boba tea.
