SIN: McDonald's {Chinese New Year 2024}

Are you Team Chicken or Team Beef for Prosperity Burger?

In a blink of an eye, we find ourselves approaching the end of the Lunar New Year period. Have you indulged in McDonald's Prosperity Burger yet this year? Did you know that 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of this beloved burger, which is also available in other regions, such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong?

Value Meal: Two Prosperity Beef Burgers S$22.40

Why have only one burger when you can have two to double the huat? Just kidding! Obviously I was with a friend.

Prosperity Beef Burger (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

I believe I didn't have the burger last year, so I just had to savour it this year. Nestled within a sesame bun was a succulent beef patty generously coated with the signature black pepper sauce that was mildly spicy. The onions were sweet enough to balance out the flavours. Still the same as how I remember it, the beef burger delivered a flavourful experience.

Prosperity Twister Fries (Large) (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

The what-I-like-to-call curly fries boasted a crispy exterior that gave way to a fluffy and tender interior. These golden, spiraled treats were seasoned well with a harmonious blend of savoury and aromatic spices without excessive saltiness.

Pink Guava McFizz +S$0.20 (Set Menu)
Taste: 7/10

I suppose the effervescent drink with its pink hue wasn't anything fancier than pink guava cordial and soda water, but it was a good thirst-quencher that avoided excessive sweetness nonetheless.

Pineapple Coconut Frappé (Small) +S$1.00 (Set Menu)
Taste: 5/10

I'm not sure if it's just me, but the festive frappé seemed to miss the mark in delivering the anticipated tropical fusion. While it didn't exactly fall into the bad category, somehow the stronger coconut flavour seemed to clash rather than harmonise with the pineapple.

Pineapple Pie S$1.80
Taste: 7/10

I recall I only tried their Strawberry Pie, which tasted pretty much artificial, during the festive period last year. Thankfully, the pineapple tart wasn't too bad. The pineapple jam wasn't prohibitively sweet, and I quite enjoyed the gummy pineapple bits.

Kueh Bangkit Cone S$1.20
Taste: 8/10

For the uninitiated, kueh bangkit is a kind of cookie made of tapioca starch and coconut milk. As some mentioned that the uniquely flavoured soft serve was in-kueh-dible, I couldn't resist giving it a try. While it could be more fragrant, I relished the creamy coconut taste that was complemented by a subtle hint of pandan aroma. In case you're wondering, no, the soft serve didn't have that powdery texture of the real thing.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 5/10
Overall: 6/10

If you've tried any of the above, which one is your favourite? Pika's advice: It was a pity that the branch ran out of the prawn-paste flavoured Ha! Chicken Drumlets when I was there. You may want to give them a try.
