Legit 'gyukatsu' in Singapore!

I'd consider Biseryu in Far East Plaza at Orchard a hidden gem, a small restaurant showcasing dishes curated from eight distinct concept restaurants in Japan, such as ox tongue from Senri and fried chicken from Karamasa. What draws me to the establishment, however, is the premium gyukatsu: beef cutlet that's not so commonly found in Singapore.

Biseryu is the sister restaurant of Deli's Kitchen at Bencoolen.

Black Curry with Rib Eye Katsu S$34.00
Taste: 9/10

Kuro kare (lit. black curry), a visually striking variation to the standard Japanese curry, is crafted using a similar method, but incorporates squid ink or dark chocolate to achieve its black hue. Served alongside rice, I really enjoyed the non-spicy curry that presented a depth of flavours.

There was more than enough beef cutlet to justify its price. Breaded and deep-fried to perfection, it was a tantalising combination of a crispy exterior and succulent red meat within.

Roast Beef Don (Medium) S$25.00
Taste: 8.5/10

The allure of their roast beef rice bowl beckoned me to place an order. Hailing from Jinbocho in Tokyo, the rice bowl featured mouth-watering beef slices adorned with onsen tamago (lit. hot spring egg) and a bouquet of lettuce that contributed to a refreshing crunch to each bite.

The beef slices graced my palate with an ideal amount of fats, creating a luscious mouthfeel. The runny yolk added another layer of dimension to the dish with its velvety and creamy texture.

Fried Octopus Habanero Flavour S$12.00
Taste: 8/10

Instead of the more common deep-fried squid, Biseryu serves the octopus counterpart tossed with a rather spicy kick of habanero powder, though I was expecting it to be much hotter. The octopus, boasting a springy texture, had a light flour coating that delivered a pretty satisfying crunch.

Premium Wildflower Honey S$2.50
Taste: 8/10

As I was trying to cut down on alcohol that week, I opted for a glass of iced wildflower honey with a truly affordable price tag. After all the richness from the food, it proved to be a refreshing beverage that gently soothed the throat with its gentle sweetness.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

Does anyone know where else can we find delicious gyukatsu in Singapore? Pika's advice: People rave about their ox tongue originating from Sendai in Miyazaki Prefecture. You may want to give it a try.
