AUS: Air New Zealand Lounge @ Melbourne Airport

Grab some barista-made coffee before flying off!

Given the number of posts I've shared over the past few weeks, you could probably tell that it was a short first trip ever to Melbourne, Australia. Before flying out, my travel buddy and I had a quick breakfast at Air New Zealand Lounge, a sanctuary tucked away downstairs after passing through the duty-free area.

The buffet spread wasn't that extensive during breakfast hours, but it was sufficient for sure.

Minestrone

I started off with a bowl of the hearty tomato-based Italian soup that came with beans, carrots and zucchinis. It was elevated by herb-crusted toasted bread that soaked up all that rich goodness while adding a pleasant contrast in texture.

Assorted Stuff #1

While the scrambled eggs weren’t particularly silky, they were still pretty enjoyable, paired nicely with a juicy pork sausage. Besides egg mayonnaise sandwich, I also tried two different wraps: crispy chicken and roast beef with honey mustard.

Assorted Stuff #2

I enjoyed the savoury muffin filled with ham, corn and bell peppers. The carrot cake was quite a standout as well as it was moist and spiced just right, while the strawberry cake was pretty delicate. I was happy to have a creamy wedge of Brie, and I also picked up an oatmeal cookie to go with my coffee.

Pika's advice: For those who prefer waffles over pancakes, the former are available as well.

Beverages

The lounge offers barista-made coffee. My cup of flat white was smooth and well-balanced, exactly the pick-me-up I needed. Feeling like having a little tipple. I had a bit of Appleton Estate rum on the rocks, and then finished things off with chilled tomato juice.
