SIN: Boston Seafood Shack {CLOSED}

Good seafood dinner that, alas, ended very late...

UPDATE (20/05/2016): The eatery has closed down.

After a hectic day at work, I went to The Star Vista with my BFF to have a quick dinner, or so we'd thought. Having known the existence of Boston Seafood Shack since our university days, we finally decided to give it a try. The very first thing that I noted while queueing was the fact that the eatery was severely understaffed.

Crispy Squid S$8.00
Taste: 8/10

I wanted to order their soft shell crab appetiser, but unfortunately it was sold out. Settling with crispy squid rings, I found that they were pretty delectable, even though the batter could be crispier. It was a delight to dip them into the the tartar sauce, which was nicely creamy and pretty rich.

Crab Meat Porcini Cream Sauce S$15.00
Taste: 7/10

Upon arrival of the dish, I was glad that the promised crab meat was clearly visible, along with mushrooms that were swimming in a pool of cream sauce. The balance of flavours was there, but I thought the white sauce could be less runny. Also, the linguine could be more al dente.

Grilled King Snapper S$16.00
Taste: 8/10

Having seen how the dish was illustrated in the menu booklet, I was disappointed by the actual presentation of it. Nevertheless, the fish was executed well. Its skin was crispy, while the flesh was moist with a heady barbecued smell. The rice was ordinary though, while the vegetables were of acceptable freshness.

Chocolate Brownie S$7.00
Taste: 7.5/10

To end the meal, a weirdly cut piece of chocolate brownie with two oddly shaped scoops of vanilla ice cream was presented on the table. Studded with a bit of nuts, It wasn't bad at all, but I was expecting to have something even more chocolatey. Its texture could be denser as well.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 3.5/10
Overall: 6/10

It has come to my attention that they've just very recently made a revamp on their menu with inflation incurred. Frankly speaking, the food wasn't bad. However, having experienced how slow the service was, not to mention that they actually forgot to serve us one of the main courses, I'd never return there. It was a pain in the ass to pay the 10% service charge at the end of the day. Pika's advice: Should you wish to try dining there, you may want to consider their signature lobster roll.
