Crab meat spaghetti with Mama Rosa's sauce, anyone?
Café Etc. is one of the many eateries along the stretch of Upper Thomson Road. Simple and unassuming in decor, it has been serving a variety of Western dishes since the last quarter of 2013. According to the website at the point of writing, it's looking to open its next outlet this year.

Buffalo Wings S$10.00
Taste: 6/10
It took me one look into the appetiser to notice that the spicy sauce wasn't thick enough to cling onto the wings, and I was right. Moreover, it could be slightly less sour, even though the degree of spiciness was right. Having said that, I enjoyed the blue cheese dressing that wasn't overly pungent with a nice balance of flavours.
Crab Meat Pasta S$15.00
Taste: 7/10
Mama Rosa's sauce may sound exotic; it's actually a traditional sauce made of tomatoes, minced beef and basil. Once again, I found that the sauce could be less runny, and it could be sweeter. The spaghetti was pretty much al dente though, having enough crab meat and juicy mushrooms.
Striploin Steak S$16.50
Taste: 8/10
Done medium, the striploin steak was the best item of the day. The red meat was juicy without being unpleasantly rubbery, going well with the black pepper sauce that was aromatic. The garlic mashed potatoes were velvety, but not garlicky enough. Meanwhile, I felt that the ratatouille (French stewed vegetable dish) was just slightly overcooked, but it didn't quite bother me.
Apple Crumble with Ice Cream S$6.00
Taste: 6/10
The dessert that I ordered actually had a really nice apple filling with an adequate amount of caramelised apple bits that gave a nice, slightly chewy sensation inside the mouth, blending well with the vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately, the pastry wasn't crumbly at all, bordering to the point of being undercooked.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7/10
More misses than hits, I suppose. One of the female servers was really friendly though. Pika's advice: Should you wish to try dining there, do note that they offer Executive Lunch Special, priced at S$13.90, on weekdays from 11.30am to 2.30pm.
