MAS: MH Satellite Golden Lounge @ Kuala Lumpur International Airport

"A sanctuary of peace and tranquility" at KLIA!

I flew with Malaysia Airlines from Singapore to Yangon, Myanmar, intentionally giving myself about 3 hours at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for a stop at the Satellite Golden Lounge. Even though I use a lot of labels for this post, which may lead to a fallible conclusion about the spread of food in the lounge, I have to say that I didn't see a wide variety the other day.

Tom Yum Soup & Cream of Mushroom

The supposedly sour and spicy Thai soup turned out to be sweet and just slightly tongue-burning. Well, it wasn't a bad thing, for it was pretty delicious with chunks of chicken and caramelised onions that were delightfully sweet. The cream soup was enjoyably thick with an adequate amount of mushrooms, topped with crunchy croutons.

Assorted Stuff

Accompanying the white rice were ayam masak merah (Malay dish of chicken in red chili sauce), as well as sweet and sour fish. The former was tender with a degree of spiciness that nicely kicked the tongue, while the latter was moist, but the sweet and sour sauce was a bit too runny for my liking. For the Western options, delightfully creamy mashed potatoes went along with black pepper chicken and stir-fried vegetables with butter.

Bread

I took the bread with oatmeal crumbs, together with unsalted butter and honey. It was warm and pretty soft with a bit of good resistance upon biting.

Cappuccino & Orange Juice

A frothy cup of joe was exactly what I needed to jolt my senses awake prior to the meal. After the meal, a glass of cold orange juice was more than welcomed.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10

I'm very much agreeable to their clam that the lounge is "a sanctuary of peace and tranquility", especially due to the fact that there were only very few people in the lounge at that moment. I could really sit back and enjoy the slow passing of the time while having an unobstructed view of the tarmac. I believe there's room for improvement in terms of the range of food offered. Pika's advice: Subject to availability, the front desk of the lounge offers an upgrade for a fee. Once you're upgraded from Economy Class, you'll be able to access the lounge.
