Having Indonesian fried rice while flying within Africa!

Pardon me for the short hiatus. Let's continue with where we left off last week. My BFF and I left Bamako, Mali for Entebbe, Uganda with the flag carrier of Kenya via Nairobi, its capital city. It was our first experience with Kenya Airways, and we were thankful for the appetising food served onboard KQ513 from Bamako to Nairobi.

Only one meal service was provided for the 7-hour flight.

KQ Meal

Coleslaw Taste: 7.5/10

Not expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised that the coleslaw was adequately crisp. Mixed with diced red bell peppers and a black olive, the sliced cabbages still retained their crunch. Having said that, I'd love to have more of the dressing.

Indonesian Fried Rice with Chicken Taste: 8/10

Indonesian fried rice is one of the world's most delicious dishes, but combining it with creamy chicken stew might seem uncanny. Nevertheless, the rice was fluffy and tasty, while the chicken was tender. The carrot slices were a tad overcooked though.

Braised Fish Fillet with Mashed Potatoes Taste: 7.5/10

The fish fillet had a springy texture, doused with brown sauce that was rich enough for my liking. The mashed potatoes were beautifully milky and velvety. The greens tasted like spinach, though they were kinda bitter.

Profiteroles Taste: 8/10

How often do you get to eat profiteroles high up in the sky? The dinner ended on a high note with two pieces of profiteroles filled with vanilla cream. Thumbs up for the dessert that was served cold and not being too sweet.

Bread

The bread had a soft texture. It came with unsalted butter.

Beverages

I gave any alcoholic drinks and hot beverages a miss. I simply had a cup of apple juice and some mineral water throughout the flight as I kept feeling thirsty.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7/10

In contrast to the lunch I had in the previous flight onboard Ethiopian Airlines ET909, that dinner was so much better. Pika's advice: A vegetarian main course option is available from the standard menu, but of course it's always best to pre-order when you require one.
