HKG: Cathay Dragon KA299 (Business)

Thank you for the dose of dessert wine!

Cathay Dragon is previously known as Dragonair, the airline that I took to fly from Hong Kong to Jeju, South Korea and vice versa in the Economy Class in 2012. For today, let's take a look at the Business Class meal onboard the short-haul flight from Hong Kong to Hanoi, Vietnam.

Pikachu couldn't wait to snatch the food.

Welcome Drinks

I chose Passion Tour, the airline's signature drink, which is a unique blend of gin, apple juice, passion fruit, sparkling water and lemongrass. Given its pleasant aroma and mild level of sweetness, I really enjoyed the refreshing drink. My BFF, on the other hand, had a glass of orange juice.

KA Meal

Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Grilled Zucchini - Taste: 7.5/10

Being more exciting than a typical salad bowl, the appetiser featured grilled zucchini slices and cherry tomatoes that were quite succulent. The beef slices were acceptably tender, although they could be roasted a bit longer to be even more tantalising.

Bread

From the bread basket, I decided to have just one slice of garlic bread. Served warm, it was pretty crunchy and fragrant enough for my liking.

Sautéed Sole Fish with Steamed Jasmine Rice - Taste: 8/10

The lightly battered sole fish chunks cooked with thick oyster sauce were delightful, going well with the rice that wasn't dry at all. The vegetables didn't show any signs of being overcooked at all, although the mushrooms could be juicier.

Balsamic Paprika Chicken with Duchess Potatoes - Taste: 8/10

Equally delectable were the tender chicken chunks cooked with balsamic gravy that was sweet and tangy at the same time. I felt that the potatoes could be baked longer, but they were silky enough. The green beans and mushrooms were moist.

Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream

I was really excited to get the zesty yuzu (a species of aromatic Asiatic citron) and orange flavour, which is one of my favourites. My BFF opted for the caramel biscuit and cream speculoos flavour.

Beverages

A glass of water was served together with the appetiser. After the disappointment of not being able to get some dessert wine onboard Cathay Pacific CX810 and CX855, I was delighted to have a dose of Chateau Rondillon Loupiac with its apricot and peach notes. At the end of the meal, I had decaffeinated black coffee by Illy.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

Despite it being a short-haul flight, I found the service to be more amiable than what I experienced onboard Cathay Pacific. Pika's advice: Take note that even though the menu lists four types of red wine and another four of white wine, they are served on various flights across the network on a rotational basis.
