SIN: Pince & Pints {CLOSED}
"A balanced diet is a lobster in one hand and beer in the other."
Let's review a restaurant that I visited today for lunch since it's Pikachu's birthday and mine! Specialising in lobsters done in various styles, Pince & Pints has been delighting customers since 2014. At the point of writing, there's a branch here in Singapore at Tanjong Pagar and another in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
We took advantage of the fact that some dishes are cheaper during lunch hours on weekdays.
UPDATE (01/01/2022): The restaurant has closed down.
Lobster Roll S$48.00
Taste: 8.5/10
Usually priced at S$58.00 on the main menu, the lobster roll was a satisfying one. Although I was hoping that the bun would be slightly less sweet, it was full of lobster chunks, thinly coated with mayonnaise, that were adequately sweet and springy. Served on the side were butter sauce, fresh salad and crispy, fluffy fries.
Half Live Cantonese Style Steamed Lobster S$29.00
Taste: 8/10
For a taste of the East, I tried the steamed lobster in light soy sauce seasoned with a bit of sugar, salt and ginger. Topped with spring onions, the half lobster wasn't that meaty, but enjoyable nonetheless. It came with lots of glass noodles that were a real delight to slurp, as well as a bowl of rice.
Deconstructed Affogato S$9.00
Taste: 8.5/10
"Deconstructed" is such a convenient word to describe three separate glasses of not-so-sweet vanilla ice cream with chocolate sticks, powerful espresso and thick chocolate sauce. They were indeed a match made in heaven, though it was a bit of a pity that the ice cream had already started melting by the time it reached the table.
Classic Ice Tea S$7.00
Taste: 7/10
The homemade ice tea is something that I wouldn't rave about, but it was by no means off-putting. With simple syrup served separately, the tea was refreshing and tasted pleasant on the tongue, but not as aromatic as expected. More could certainly be done to make it unique and thus justify the price.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10
The restaurant is championing sustainable seafood, importing only from selected fisheries and harvesters. Pika's advice: Ladies rejoice! Every Wednesday, except for eve of and public holiday, female diners can enjoy Lobster Roll for S$48.00 (instead of S$58.00) or Lobster Truffle Roll for S$58.00 (instead of S$68.00) all day long.
