When 'chye sim' met pasta~

The last post of the month shall serve as the closure of my overseas food adventure in June 2019. After a series of Business Class meals, I wouldn't say I was looking forward to the meal onboard Vietnam Airlines in the Economy Class again, but apparently it wasn't too shabby.

Melon loves pasta. Do you?

Pre-Meal Snack & Beverage

Prior to the meal, each passenger was offered a packet of flour-coated peanuts and green peas, as well as a beverage of choice. Like a small kid, I went for a cup of full-cream milk.

VN Meal

Chicken Salad - Taste: 7/10

The appetiser comprised some vegetables, such as lettuce leaves, cucumbers and onions, topped with boiled chicken breast. I felt that it could have more of the tangy dressing made of soy sauce, vinegar and sesame oil to bind everything together nicely.

Braised Beef with Pasta - Taste: 7/10

While it might not look like it, the beef chunks were surprisingly quite tender. There wasn't enough of the flavourful brown gravy though, especially to moisten the penne further. The chye sim (Chinese mustard green) was a jarring element in the dish.

Spicy Fish with Rice - Taste: 7.5/10

The better main course was the fish cooked with a kind of spicy gravy that was somewhat akin to curry, but not exactly that. The fish was adequately fresh and succulent. It was accompanied by rice mixed with corns and green peas, as well as chye sim and carrot slices.

Bread

The bread was soft alright. It came with a pack of unsalted butter.

Dessert Cake - Taste: 7/10

I'm not too sure what to call the cake that was served for dessert. The top half had a jelly-like texture with a hint of coconut milk, while the bottom half was a sponge cake. Topped with small bits of sweetened red beans, it was mildly sweet overall

Beverages

I had Coca Cola at first, followed by a cup of coffee that wasn't thin and pretty aromatic at the end of the meal. Pika's advice: For those who enjoy beer, you may want to have some Hanoi Beer onboard.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 6.5/10
