JPN: DAM @ Huis Ten Bosch
What's Sasebo burger?
My BFFs and I spent one full day at Huis Ten Bosch, a Dutch-themed amusement park in Kyushu, Japan that wasn't crowded in early December last year. For lunch, we were headed to DAM that serves Sasebo burger, which was introduced in 1950s by the US forces stationed in the region. McDonald's, in contrast, only came to Japan in 1971.
When you make your burger order into a set meal, you'll get to choose a side dish and a drink. Choices of side dishes include fries, nuggets and sausages. We didn't try the nuggets.
The Japanese name of the dish is バシルチキンバーガーセット. I enjoyed the breaded chicken burger the most because the patty was pretty tender, even though it could be crunchier. It was topped with a slice of cheese, tomato, iceberg lettuce and pesto that was pretty aromatic with an adequate amount of chopped garlic. I also chose fries to go with this burger.

King DAM Hamburger Set ¥1,220 (~S$15.45)
King Dam Hamburger - Taste: 6.5/10
Fries - Taste: 6.5/10
The Japanese name of the dish is キングダムバーガーセット. Comprising a beef patty, a sunny-side up egg, two bacon strips and iceberg lettuce, DAM's version of Sasebo burger was alright. It was a pity that the burger bun was somewhat dry, but thankfully it wasn't hard. The beef patty and bacon strips, on the other hand, were tender enough for my liking. As for the fries, they weren't that crispy, but well-seasoned.
Soft Fried Egg Hamburger Set ¥1,120 (~S$14.20)
Soft Fried Egg Hamburger Set - Taste: 7/10
Sausages - Taste: 7.5/10
The Japanese name of the dish is 半熟テリまろバーガーセット. I found this particular hamburger to be more appetising as the yolk of the sunny-side up egg was runny, which blended well with the sweet teriyaki sauce coating the beef patty. The mini sausages were pretty tasty too with a springy texture.
Basil Chicken Hamburger Set ¥1,120 (~S$14.20)

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7/10
For the drinks, we ordered two cups of Fanta Melon and a cup of Calpis Soda. Pika's advice: Interestingly, it's slightly cheaper to do a takeaway than to eat in. If you're the kind who wants to save money as much as possible, the former is certainly an option.
