SKR: Asiana Airlines OZ111 (Business)
Cloudy 'makgeolli' drink onboard, anyone?
My BFFs and I left Osaka, Japan not with a Japanese airline, but with the second largest airline of South Korea. Asiana Airlines OZ111 brought us to Incheon International Airport in South Korea for a period of transit before we continued our journey to Jakarta, Indonesia. Lunch was served onboard at 11.30am.
Pikachu was looking forward to have his makgeolli, a lightly sparkling Korean rice wine.
OZ Meal
Mixed Greens - Taste: 8/10
For appetiser, each of us indulged in a bowl of colourful salad comprising green and purple lettuce leaves, red peppers, cherry tomatoes and olives, which was adequately fresh and crisp. It was served with a side of French dressing that was slightly sweet and tangy enough.
Bread
I was hoping to see garlic bread inside the bread basket carried by the flight attendant. Alas, there was none, and so I picked one randomly. It was a little bit crispy outside with a slightly fluffy interior, which went well with the lightly salted butter served on a small plate.
Grilled Beef with Steamed Rice - Taste: 8/10
It turned out that both main courses were pretty much Japanese dishes featuring rice. The grilled beef marinated with shoyu (Japanese soy sauce) and garlic were quite tender and flavourful at the same time. It came with grilled asparagus and mushrooms that were naturally sweet. I must say that the rice was also cooked well.
Chicken Brochette with Steamed Rice - Taste: 7/10
Even though it's called brochette, the chicken chunks didn't actually come with the skewer sticks. Cooked with spinach, carrots, turnips and bell peppers, the white meat was quite tasty, but it could be more succulent. It came with three small rice balls dusted with a bit of purple-coloured seasoning infused with pickled plum.
Strawberry Chocolate Mousse - Taste: 8/10
Comprising of a thin chocolate cake base and a much thicker layer of strawberry mousse, the dessert was pretty delightful. Topped with cream nicely made into a sphere and a small piece of gold foil, it wasn't overly sweet and didn't taste artificial.
Beverages
The meal tray came with a glass of water. As mentioned earlier, I ordered the lightly sparkling makgeolli that appeared milky. Being slightly sweet, tart and bitter, the complex drink was enjoyable to me. At the end of the meal, I had a cup of coffee that tasted alright. Pika's advice: For those who prefer beer, there are Korean beer brands to choose from: OB, Cass, Kloud and Max.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10
The flight was supposed to be operated by the newer Airbus 350-900, but unfortunately it was changed to Airbus 330-300 that has shown signs of ageing.
