MAS: Kimberley Hotel George Town [Breakfast]

Need more cherry tomatoes and onions for the salad!

Kimberley Hotel Georgetown (3*) is a heritage hotel that's strategically located in the heart of Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia, which historical core has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. Buffet breakfast is served at the hotel, but there isn't much variety of food and drinks offered.

Assorted Stuff

First of all, I tried the Chinese style fried rice tossed with a bit of eggs and onions that tasted only slightly savoury. The scrambled eggs weren't too shabby, though I was hoping for them to be more velvety. I also took the standard canned baked beans in tomato sauce, sausages and hash browns.

Salad

For the salad that was placed in one big bowl at the buffet table, the green and purple lettuce leaves were pretty crisp. There were limited amounts of cherry tomatoes that were juicy, as well as purple onion rings that were quite sweet.

Toast

I only saw white bread at the buffet line, toasting two slices for a short while and subsequently brushing them with lightly salted butter and strawberry jam.

Fruits

The watermelon slices were nicely sweet and juicy. While the honeydew cubes weren't as awesome, they were acceptably succulent.

Coffee & Orange Cordial Drink

The black coffee was pretty satisfyingly robust and fragrant, while the chilled orange cordial drink was only mildly sweet.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The breakfast wasn't much, but I enjoyed the nice ambience of the restaurant that's nicely decorated. Pika's advice: I heard that sometimes, probably when there are only a few guests staying at the hotel, cooked-to-order breakfast is served instead of buffet breakfast. If you're lucky enough, I suppose the former should be tastier.
