I'd kill for the salted butterscotch brownie right now!

Life's been so stressful lately because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so why not have some chocolate? Did you know that Awfully Chocolate, a brand that has been around since 1998, runs a flagship restaurant called Ninethirty, that's strategically located at the intersection of East Coast Road and Joo Chiat Road?

The restaurant is diagonally opposite I12 Katong.

Crab Meat Slaw S$13.00
Taste: 8/10

It was quite a delightful plate of crunchy shredded purple cabbages and sliced green apples tossed with buttermilk that was pretty light on the palate. For the price, they weren't stingy with the amount of crab meat. A wedge of slightly caramelised lemon was placed on the side, providing enough acidity to make the slaw taste fresher.

Truffle Fries S$13.00
Taste: 8/10

I'll be honest; I don't really enjoy any dishes that have too intense a truffle aroma. Thankfully, Ninethirty's rendition suited my taste. The adequately crispy fries seasoned with truffle oil was topped with quite a generous amount of finely grated parmesan cheese. The homemade garlic aioli served on the side was adequately tangy.

Grilled Pork Chop S$26.00
Taste: 6.5/10

Described as "bone-in premium loin cut" in the menu booklet, the grilled pork chop was unfortunately not so impressie as it wasn't as succulent as expected. It came with a strip of bacon that was crispy, but overdone. The garlic mashed potatoes underneath the crisp cabbages were pretty good.

Rib-Eye Cut S$28.00
Taste: 8/10

The rib-eye steak chargrilled to medium by default was a more palatable main course. Sitting on a few strips of thin asparagus and potato cubes, the red meat was succulent. It was nicely complemented by the red wine reduction sauce, which was mildly sweet with a bit of heat from peppercorns, that didn't overshadow the flavours of the meat.

Salted Butterscotch Brownie S$7.90
Taste: 9/10

The dinner ended on a high note with an affordable slice of brownie that was heavenly, for it was moist, fudgy and dense in terms of texture. I was enamoured by the rich flavours of the mixture of brown butter, caramel and salt. It must've been a delight to have with coffee, but since I'm quite sensitive to caffeine, I decided against it lest I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

Thinking about the awesome brownie makes my mouth water now. Pika's advice: Take note that the restaurant has got an all-day weekend brunch menu that's available on, well, weekends and public holidays.
