SIN: Thai Accent

Truly fresh and flavourful steamed sea bass!

One fine evening, not having a specific restaurant in mind while walking about at Singapore's largest shoping mall, i.e. VivoCity, I decided to walk into Thai Accent. It was only until I was seated that I checked the reviews given to the Thai restaurant online, which appear to be pretty much promising.

My dining partner and I ordered a few dishes to go with steamed rice. Pika's advice: If you fancy prata to go with some dishes, such as green curry, the restaurant does offer it for S$2.00 a piece.

Steamed Sea Bass with Lime, Garlic and Chili Sauce S$35.90
Taste: 9/10

A dish not for the faint-hearted, the steamed sea bass packed a hefty punch in a good way. I really enjoed the fresh fish that had such bouncy flesh. Luckily I didn't slurp the broth quickly as it was strongly sour and spicy, which accentuated the natural sweetness of the fish. There was enough garlic that made the dish fragrant.

Pandan Leaves Chicken S$14.90
Taste: 7.5/10

The chicken chunks wrapped in pandan leaves are actually listed under the appetiser section, but we had them as a dish to go with rice.

The white meat was pretty succulent with a hint of smokiness, but I was hoping that they'd be more fragrant. Accompanying the four pieces of chicken was some sweet Thai chili sauce.

Stir-Fried Beancurd with Hot Basil Leaves S$11.90
Taste: 8/10

Since we felt that ordering a leafy vegetable dish might not be worth it, we decided to go for a beancurd counterpart instead. Stir-fried with lots of red chilis and an adequate amount of garlic, the beancurd strips were delightful. The dish truly kicked my taste buds, though given the name, it could certainly use more of the Thai basil leaves for a stronger aroma.

Sweet Tapioca with Coconut Milk S$5.90
Taste: 8/10

The dinner ended with steamed tapioca pieces that were served piping hot on top of a banana leaf, so hot that I could see steam coming out of them and thus had to wait for a while before I could take a clear shot. They were delightfully soft and starchy, going well with the thick coconut milk that was adequately sweetened.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

I have to try their green curry someday, which appears to be one of its specialties.
