SIN: Lime Restaurant

Manjari chocolate bomb with yuzu, anyone?

Renowned as a hotel-in-a-garden, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering (5*) has been enticing me to have a staycation with them all along. However, its proximity from home always deters me from taking the plunge. Anyway, I had the opportunity to have lunch with a friend at its only restaurant called Lime Restaurant.

The restaurant claims that it's among the best buffet restaurants in Singapore, but we went for a la carte lunch instead.

Hokkien Popiah S$16.00
Taste: 7/10

There aren't many starters to choose from the menu. While I don't particularly fancy Teochew style spring roll, I gave in to my friend who'd like to try it. Both of us agreed that while it wasn't too shabby, neither was it mind-blowing. Rolled in thin, slightly chewy crêpes were braised julienned turnips with dried shrimps, topped with herbs, chili and crushed peanuts.

Nasi Goreng Kampung S$24.00
Taste: 7/10

I did mention before that I tend to order Indonesian or Malay style fried rice when dining at a hotel eatery somehow. For the price, I felt that the restaurant could've put together more ingredients to further festoon the seafood fried rice, which actually tasted pretty nice. The chicken satay was tender alright, while the pickles would perform better with more acidity.

Lobster Risotto with Blue Swimmer Crab Meat S$30.00
Taste: 8/10

A better main course was the risotto blessed with nice colours. Carnaroli rice was cooked in lobster bisque, resulting in a creamy, hearty dish that wasn't cloying. There were some blue swimmer crab meat as well, along with fava beans. It was finished with a dollop of citrus-infused mascarpone cheese and chopped herbs.

The Black Bomb S$18.00
Taste: 8/10

That was a perfectly glazed dessert item akin to a chocolate mousse cake. Topped with edible gold flakes, it was made of Manjari, a type of fruity dark chocolate with 64% cocoa solid content. It was accompanied by yuzu (a species of aromatic Asiatic citron) cream,  refreshing lemon and lime sorbet and some fruits.

In the centre of the cake was a rather crunchy yuzu feuilletine, a confection made of thin, sweetened crêpes. It offered a nice contrast in terms of flavours and texture to the mousse cake.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

I shall go for a staycation there once I've moved out of Chinatown. Pika's advice: If you're interested, the restaurant offers innovative plant-based a la carte menu.
