SIN: M Social Singapore [Breakfast]

Free-flow soft-boiled eggs, anyone?

From Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), we shall move on to look back (that sounds funny, I know) at Phase 3 (Heightened Alert) when dine-in was allowed once again. How happy I was to be able to have a la carte buffet breakfast again during my staycation at M Social Singapore (4*), which is located at Robertson Quay.

Assorted Stuff #1

Arranged on the medium-sized plate were mushroom omelette, grilled veal sausages, crispy bacon strips and Lyonnaise potatoes. Appearing like a mess, the potatoes cooked with onions actually didn't taste bad, but certainly not what I was expecting.

What about the omelette, you ask? Honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be so moist and pillowy, so that was a pleasant surprise. They weren't so generous with the mushrooms, but I wasn't complaining. Pika's advice: Plain and cheese omelettes are also available should you fancy them.

Assorted Stuff #2

Accompanied by grilled chicken sausages and hash browns, the bed of scrambled eggs wasn't a winner unlike its omelette counterpart, but it was adequately soft and moist nonetheless. The veal sausages were more appetising than the chicken sausages.

Soft-Boiled Eggs

Not into Western style eggs for breakfast? You may want to get soft-boiled eggs instead, which you shall crack on your own and add dark soy sauce and pepper as desired.

Nasi Lemak

The rice cooked with coconut milk and pandan leaves was quite fragrant, certainly better than the ones served at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert). It was accompanied by an otah - spiced fish cake made of mackerel in this case, a deep-fried drumlet, a sunny-side up egg, peanuts and anchovies, as well as chili that was a tad spicy and not overly sweet.

Mesclun Salad

I swore by the salad as it was fresh and crisp. Perhaps it's not clear from the photo, but it was drizzled with some Japanese roasted sesame dressing.

Pastry & Kaya Toast

While the croissant and the chocolate danish weren't really crunchy, they were buttery alright. The toast filled with kaya jam and lightly salted butter was more fulfilling.

Koko Crunch

I wonder when was the last time I had Koko Crunch prior to that staycation? Anyway, the low-fat milk provided tasted really light.

Fruits & Yogurt

The dragon fruit was pretty sweet, but the same couldn't be said to the watermelon and honeydew. I forgot to take note of the flavour of the yogurt, but the hotel does provide plain and flavoured ones.

Coffee & Tea

There wasn't anything fantastic about the black coffee. It wasn't that aromatic, but thankfully it didn't have an acidic aftertaste. The English breakfast tea, on the other hand, was fragrant enough.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10

Breakfast is served at the hotel's only restaurant called Beast and Butterflies, which is rather trippy in terms of ambience.
