FRA: Le Backstage

Heavenly curry and crème brûlée!

One clear day, armed with our cameras, my friends and I spent hours walking around in a huge park located not very far away from our hostel in Lyon. The scenery was really awesome that we forgot it was almost 9.00pm. Desperately looking for a place to eat dinner, we finally decided, after another round of long walk from the park, to try this bar-cum-restaurant in Concorde Hotel.

Fusilli Arrabbiata €13.00 (~S$22.80)
Taste: 8/10

Arrabbiata is a Roman style tomato sauce typically cooked with garlic, red chili and olive oil. Le Backstage's version the other day didn't taste spicy at all, but the tomato flavour was strong. The corkscrew-shaped pasta was al dente. A bit more salt would be welcomed though. Pika's advice: Add a few spoonfuls of grated parmesan cheese to double the enjoyment!

Curry de Poulet Accompagné de Riz Basmati €16.50 (~S$28.90)
Taste: 8.5/10

The curry was really unique as it was really different from the many varieties of curry I usually eat. Though I believe it didn't contain as much spices as Indian curry, it was nevertheless fragrant. The thick curry gravy was really a delight to drizzle over the Basmati rice which was aromatic as well, thanks to this particular compound called 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline. Ok, nevermind... The chicken breast was superbly tender.

Crème Brûlée €6.00 (~S$10.50)
Taste: 8.5/10

The moment I glanced at the dessert menu, I immediately made my mind once I saw crème brûlée, which is my most favourite dessert of all times. The vanilla infused custard was smooth and creamy without being too soft or firm. The caramel layer on top was really crispy; it was really a nice contrast to the custard. I'd love it even more if it were served cold.

Bread

Hey, it's Melon! She felt that the bread actually tasted quite good, although it was slightly hard for her.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10

Smile was pencilled on the face of the staff serving us the other day. He was efficient, and could speak English well (oh, yes, Concorde Hotel). I'd love to come back to try one of their cocktails, and of course, for the crème brûlée. :P
