CHN: Bailing Hotel [Breakfast]

Fulfilling buffet breakfast with yummy custard bun!

Bailing Hotel (4*) is strategically situated along the Pearl River, the third largest river in China which spans eight provinces. It's also conveniently located near the bustling Beijing Road shopping district, and within walking distance from Haizhu Square metro station.

The spread of the buffet breakfast the other day was pretty awesome. Pika's advice: If you happen to see anything you fancy, but feel like eating them later, just grab them first! It seems like they don't prepare that many of the same items, and so they may replace them with other stuff!

Assorted Stuff #1

In general, the cooked items were appetising. The fried rice was pretty flavourful and fluffy at the same time, while the fried noodle wasn't short on flavour with peppery aroma. The you tiao (Chinese cruller) wasn't too oily, and the yolk of the fried egg was still a bit runny. If you're wondering what's the medallion-shaped stuff sitting on the rice, the answer is fried sweet potato.

Assorted Stuff #2

The congee was pretty thick and had minced meat inside, topped with Chinese pickled vegetables which weren't overly salty. Of all the salad items served that morning, I really enjoyed the shredded calabashes which were seasoned just right. I also found simplicity at its best: the glossy bread coated with simple syrup was adequately sweet, light and fluffy, and the fried mantou (Chinese bun) was awesome, although I have to admit that it was kinda oily.

Glutinous Rice Cake & Custard Bun

The green-coloured glutinous rice cake was a bit too chewy to bite, but the filling of ground peanuts infused with ginger was pretty good. Even better was the bun filled with warm, creamy custard which, for a few seconds, made me forget about whatever problems I were having haha...

Fruits

The orange slices were fresh, and the cherry tomatoes were really sweet and juicy!

Milk & Orange Juice

A glass of warm milk to wake me up, and a glass of cold orange juice to end the meal! :)

Tea

And a cup of tea in the middle of the meal... Sugar blocks were provided, and one was just right!

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

The restaurant is spacious enough with tables put not too close with one another. Anyway, this entry concludes the Shenzhen-Guangzhou trip that I went for last month. We'll move on to the next region, probably next week!
