CHN: Papa John's Pizza

"Better ingredients. Better pizza. Papa John's."

Papa John's, which is based in Louisville, Kentucky, is actually the third largest take-out and delivery pizza restaurant chain in the United States (care to have a guess on the first and second largest?). Due to its popularity, Papa John's is now available in over 30 countries! Anyway, I ordered the Set Meal for Two priced at RMB 118.00 (~S$23.60). Let's see whether I agree with their above-mentioned slogan.

BBQ Chicken Wings (Set Meal)
Taste: 8.5/10

The chicken wings, which were packed with spices, were delectable and aromatic. They were tender and well-marinated till the flavour penetrated into the meat.

Garden Salad (Set Meal)
Taste: 7/10

There wasn't anything special about the salad, but most of the vegetables were pretty fresh, except for the carrot slices which were kinda dry.

BBQ Smoked Beef Pizza (9") (Set Meal)
Taste: 8/10

I enjoyed the pizza which wasn't too thin, but I think Pizza Hut's original pan pizza bread is crispier and more aromatic. The combination of smoked beef and onions was simple, but delicious, and the tomato sauce on the pizza was sweet enough that I didn't need to add more from the bottle. By the way, 9" is the smallest size they have. Medium is 12" and large is 14".

Fanta Orange & Ice Lemon Tea (Set Meal)

Four options: Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and Ice Lemon Tea. I have no idea what brand of lemon tea I was drinking, but it was refreshing with strong tea and lemon flavour unlike some random brands. Oh, it seems like there's only orange-flavoured Fanta in China, no?

New York Cheesecake RMB 18.00 (~S$3.60)
Taste: 7.5/10

Obviously they didn't care much about presentation. I mean, just look at the chocolate sauce! -.-" Anyway, the 90 grams cheesecake was slightly creamy and tasted mildly sweet. I didn't really like the texture as it didn't achieve the right degree of smoothness. Pika's advice: Blueberry lovers may want to order the blueberry cheesecake, but it's smaller in size (about 72 grams)!

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Service was pretty efficient, but the staff, although cheerful, could barely speak English. Well, we're talking about an establishment in Grandview Mall, a very popular shopping mall in Guangzhou visited by locals and tourists alike, which also happens to be the 16th largest shopping mall in the world. Hmm, okay, the pizza was pretty good. I guess I'll return to Papa John's again soon.
