MAS: Dreamtel Kota Kinabalu [Breakfast]
So-so breakfast buffet, but the omelette was moist and tasty!
Dreamtel Kota Kinabalu (3*) is situated next to Padang Merdeka, where many people catch minivans and buses to go to other parts of the region. My BFF and I had a quick breakfast before checking-out of the hotel to make our way to the majestic Mount Kinabalu.
Assorted Stuff
There wasn't anything to rave about the cooked items. The fried kway teow (Chinese flat noodle) was quite oily, while the potato wedges were a bit soggy. What I liked best was the deep-fried sausage roll, which wasn't that oily, thankfully.
Salad
The ingredients available for the salad, namely lettuces, carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes, were acceptably fresh.
Congee
While the congee could be more velvety, there were lots of side dishes provided to make it merrier. I only took those that I'd enjoy, such as eggs with chye poh (Chinese dried radish), preserved lettuces and you tiao (Chinese cruller).
Omelette
Given the quality of the food thus far, I wasn't expecting much for the omelette. To my surprise, it turned out to be the best item of the morning as it was moist and chock full of ingredients, such as ham slices, bell peppers and onions.
Watermelon
Both the red and yellow watermelon slices weren't that fresh and neither were they delightfully sweet.
Coffee & Orange Cordial Drink
The coffee wasn't that rich for me, while the orange cordial drink was neither too sweet nor too dilute.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 6/10
Ambience: 6/10
Overall: 6/10
Pika's advice: Do note that the hotel provides an early breakfast for our Muslim friends who stays at the hotel during the holy month of Ramadan every year. Here's a photo of Padang Merdeka and the hotel building in the background.
