TRY: Sultanahmet Fish House
Sumptuous seafood casserole cooked in saffron-based sauce!
As a doting big brother, I treated my sister who loves seafood. The name Sultanahmet Fish House appeared when I tried to do online search of good seafood restaurants. Interestingly, the phrase "where sultans have dined for centuries" is written on its webpage, although the restaurant was only founded in 1994.

Regarding the phrase mentioned above, I'm pretty sure they're referring to the Sultanahmet area itself and not their own restaurant.
Bread & Condiments
The bread was lovely as it was moist and fluffy. It came with a dollop of sour cream and tapenade made of minced tomatoes and olives.
Grilled Calamari ₺33.00 (~S$7.55)
Taste: 8/10
The moment the lightly charred squid arrived at the table, we were charmed by its aroma. Served with soy sauce, it had a nice texture that was far from being rubbery. The various vegetables that came with it were as fresh as they could get. The onions were especially sweet and juicy.
Tuna Fish Steak ₺38.00 (~S$8.65)
Taste: 8/10
To think about it, I can count with the fingers of one hand the number of times I've eaten tuna steak. The huge slab of the saltwater fish was grilled nicely, except for one part that was overly charred that it became bitter. Nevertheless, its firm texture and succulent nature made us satisfied.
Sea Bass with Saffron ₺57.00 (~S$13.00)
Taste: 9/10
Prepared casserole style, the chunks of sea bass and shrimps doused with saffron-infused cream stole my heart. It was such a rich dish that wasn't cloying at all, which eventually made me scoop the last drop of the sauce with bread. There were carrots and mushrooms too that made the whole thing merrier.
Kunefe ₺20.00 (~S$4.55)
Taste: 7/10
Our lunch ended with a plate of kunefe (Turkish wiry cheese pastry) adorned with pistachio crumbs in a shape of a cross. It was soaked with an adequate amount of simple syrup, but alas, it was served just slightly above room temperature. Nevertheless, it was pretty crispy and thus still enjoyable.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10
We were asked to go to the second floor, where there was nobody else when we had our lunch from 2.00pm onwards. Pika's advice: Some of the fishes, such as bonito, turbot and blue fish, are sold at market price. Do check with the staff for the current price.
