SIN: Le Rida
How about some apricot and fig sauce on your duck confit?
Situated along Bukit Timah Road is Le Rida, a restaurant that offers a curious mix of French, Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. There's also a fully-stocked bar for those who prefer to have a drink or two with light bites. One fine evening, I went there to have dinner.
I tried a Middle Eastern appetiser, two French main courses and an Indian dessert dish.

Sanbusik (Lamb) S$14.00
Taste: 6/10
Sitting on a bed of lettuce leaves that weren't that fresh were four Middle Eastern pastry pieces filled with minced lamb and pine nuts. While the filling tasted pretty good, I felt that the pastry wasn't crumbly enough. Pika's advice: Not a fan of lamb? You can opt for chicken instead.
Sauté de Grosses Crevettes à la Moutarde à l'Ancienne S$25.00
Taste: 6.5/10
I've always been a fan of prawns smothered with whole-grain Dijon mustard. The main course served by Le Rida, however, wasn't particularly exciting as the mustard wasn't rich enough for my liking. The prawns were accompanied by linguine, which could be more al dente, tossed with olive oil and green peppers.
Confit de Canard S$25.00
Taste: 7.5/10
The main course featuring duck leg with crispy skin fared better, even though the meat could be moister. It was interesting to have the duck cooked slowly in its own fat with the mildly sweet sauce made of apricots and figs. To me, the potato gratin turned out to be more like potato salad though.
Rasmalai S$7.90
Taste: 7.5/10
The dessert comprising two cottage cheese dumplings swimming in sweetened milk was enjoyable, but I've had better ones elsewhere. Topped with pistachio crumbs and a few pomegranate seeds, the dumplings were pretty airy and chewy. The milk could be made more aromatic by infusing more spices into it.
