CAN: The Keg Steakhouse + Bar

Prime rib: the prime choice for a rib-sticking meal!

The Keg, a Canadian-owned chain of steakhouse restaurants and bars, has humble origins dating back to 1971 when it was founded in Vancouver as The Keg and Cleaver. Since its inception, the brand has grown exponentially, expanding to over 160 locations across Canada and the USA. It continues to be a beloved destination for steak enthusiasts.

Prime Rib (14 oz) C$46.00 (~S$45.45)
Taste: 8.5/10

Prime rib is such an expensive treat in Singapore, so it was my plan all along to order a plate to satisfy my cravings. The beautiful slab of aged red meat was juicy and tender, going well with the horseradish and the jus infused with red wine and herbs. My two accompaniment choices, mushroom rice and deep-fried onion crisps seasoned with salt and pepper, were delectable.

Blackened Chicken C$33.00 (~S$32.60)
Taste: 7.5/10

A Cajun specialty, it's a dish featuring a portion of chicken coated with dry rub that resulted in a 'blackened' exterior through the process of searing. While the white meat topped with quite a generous serving of garlic butter could be juicier, I enjoyed the symphony of the spices and hot honey on the chicken. It was served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Escargot C$14.00 (~S$13.85)
Taste: 8/10

Supposedly an appetiser dish that actually arrived at the table later than the main courses, the escargots proved to be worth the wait. Nestled within a mushroom cap and seasoned a fragrant blend of garlic and herbs, each of the baked snails was delightful. The chewy texture of the snails complemented the earthy flavours of the mushrooms.

Bread

Although my BFF and I had requested to skip the complimentary bread when placing our order, it was still brought to our table. We didn't mind the extra carbohydrate indulgence though, for the bread boasted a crunchy exterior that gave way to a fluffy interior. It was paired with whipped garlic butter.

Hot Rum C$13.00 (~S$12.85)
Taste: 8/10

To ward off the early winter chill, each of us had a glass of hot rum. The rich flavours of rum mixed with a medley of aromatic spices resulted in a comforting concoction that warmed us from the inside out.

Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Just as I give a hearty thumbs up for the prime rib, I'd like to give a shout out to the front door staff for the thumbs up when I snapped a photo of the exterior. You're awesome! Pika's advice: Take note that their happy hours are from 4.00pm to 6.00pm, and 10.00pm to closing time.
