JPN: ANA Lounge @ Narita International Airport
How much do you like ANA's signature curry?
I arrived at Narita International Airport early before my flight to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, giving myself enough time to stop by one of ANA's bigger flagship lounges for Business Class passengers. Besides the buffet spread, guests can also enjoy freshly prepared dishes from the noodle bar.
Let's start with two of the dishes that I ordered via the QR code that can be found at most tables.
Kakiage Udon & Ramen with Pork Broth
Served in light broth, the udon (Japanese wheat flour noodle) topped with a vegetable fritter was thick and chewy enough for my liking. While the yellow noodle could be a little springier, I enjoyed the comforting broth made from pork bones. Pika's advice: If you're not in the mood for udon, you can go for soba (Japanese buckwheat noodle) instead.
ANA Original Chicken Curry Rice
I recall not being impressed by the signature curry served at ANA Lounge @ Kansai International Airport. Thankfully, the latest one I had was a step up. The deep brown curry boasted richer flavours and more generous portions of tender chicken chunks.
Assorted Stuff #1
I particularly enjoyed the fusilli tossed with sautéed bacon and asparagus, as well as the ratatouille bathed in tangy tomato sauce. Other items on the plate included a hamburg steak, deep-fried boneless chicken, potato wedges and steamed vegetables.
Assorted Stuff #2
Not to feel guilty for skipping vegetables, I helped myself to some chilled lettuce leaves, cherry tomatoes and a mound of sweet corn. Having said that, I couldn't resist adding a scoop of creamy potato salad, though that probably cancelled out any health points gained.
Assorted Stuff #3
I also had cheese and a fluffy bread roll that paired nicely with Hokkaido whipped butter and strawberry jam. The mini coloured puffs, however, fell flat as the texture was rather hard and they lacked any distinctive flavours.
Beverages
The highlight, of course, was the sweet and fragrant umeshu (Japanese plum wine) with just the right touch of tartness. That aside, I also had a glass of milk, as well as a cup of cappuccino that tasted so-so.
