Where the dried mango slices took the crown~

Happy New Year 2026! May this year bring good health, renewed joy and many blessings to all of us. To kick off the year, let's start with an airline meal feature on Philippine Airlines. I had the chance to fly from Singapore to Manila, which was the first leg of a journey that would eventually take me to Down Under.

For the 2-hour flight, all dishes were served together on a single tray.

PR Meal

Sliced Beef with Fettuccine - Taste: 6.5/10

It was a pity that the fettuccine was rather dry. Having said that, the beef slices redeemed the dish to a certain extent as they were fairly tender, carrying a good dose of savoury flavours. They were served with a side of roasted green peppers, eggplants, carrots and onions that retained their sweetness and bite without tipping into mushiness.

Roasted Chicken with Rice Taste: 7/10

Despite its lacklustre appearance, the chicken main course turned out to be the better option. The roasted chicken glazed in slightly sweet, dark-coloured sauce was succulent. It came with pickled mango strips that added a bright tang and a crunch to the dish. Though it could be fluffier, the flavoured rice was quite aromatic.

Others

Served with a pack of unsalted butter, the pre-packed bread was soft enough for liking. The tray also included a packet of dried mango slices, as well as a packet of green peas mixed with dried mango bits.

Beverages

The tray included a bottle of mineral water bottle. I opted for a cup of white wine, while my friend had Coca-Cola.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 6/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 6.5/10

I'm not really a fan of dried fruits, but Cebu dried mangoes are a pleasant exception. Pika's advice: You may want to look at a selection of dishes under myPAL Flavours, an optional paid service offered to Economy and Premium Economy passengers.
