AUS: American Doughnut Kitchen
An enduring presence at Queen Victoria Market since 1950!
Donuts are something I've always been a little obsessed with since young. While exploring Queen Victoria Market, an iconic that's been operating since 1878, I was so delighted to stumble upon a small van dedicated entirely to selling those old-school delights filled with jam. Of course I had to join the long queue of locals and tourists alike.
In a world of endless choices, they only sell two things: the donuts and the jars of jam that fills them.
Hot Jam Doughnut A$2.30 (~S$2.05)
Taste: 9/10
Watching those treats being made was half the experience: dough rounds slipping into bubbling oil and re-emerging golden and puffed before being injected with jam and finally tossed in sugar at lightning speed. Biting into one was pure comfort: the exterior was soft, yet lightly crisp, while the interior was airy and fluffy. The plum and raspberry jam burst out in a molten, sweet-tart surprise that made me crave for more. Pika's advice: One is never enough. Grab a bag of five for A$11.00 (~S$9.75)!

The van itself looks like it belongs to another era. There's simply no mistaking it.
