AUS: Ibis Styles Kingsgate [Breakfast]

A chance to try Vegemite again...

Located just a short walk from Southern Cross Station in the Central Business District of Melbourne, Ibis Styles Kingsgate (3*) makes for a convenient base for exploring the city. The room that my travel buddy and I booked came with continental buffet breakfast to start each day of our short adventure in the state of Victoria.

Yes, it's continental breakfast, but it's a pity that there are no hard-boiled eggs.

Bread & Muffin

First of all, I had a sugar-dusted donut, a cinnamon swirl, and a toasted slice of bread studded with raisins. You can make it a distinctly Australian breakfast experience by having Tatura butter and the ever-iconic Vegemite. I decided to give the thick, black spread another try, but nope, it still wasn’t to my liking.

Croissant & Macarons

The plump-looking croissant was delightful with its buttery layers promising those satisfying flakes with every bite. On another note, the raspberry and caramel macarons, on the other hand, were a tad too sweet for my liking.

Pancake

I had fun watching Popcake, the world's first fully automatic pancake machine, do its job with nothing more than a quick wave over the touch-free sensor. A fluffy pancake slid onto my plate a minute later, ready to be topped with maple syrup and butter.

Yogurt & Fruits

To my bowl of strawberry yogurt, I added some crunchy granola and preserved peach slices. I also helped myself to cubed watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe.

Beverages

I enjoyed a cup of hot black coffee that was pleasantly strong and robust, while the chilled orange juice leaned towards the sweeter side.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Overall: 7/10

Pika’s advice: If you prefer something hot, you can pay A$6.00 (~S$5.30) for a cooked breakfast plate featuring eggs, bacon, hash brown, tomato and mushrooms.
