Aromatic fried chicken with coconut bits to end the trip!

This review is the last part of the 2D1N Ha Long Bay tour with Golden Lotus Cruise. After the fun kayaking session that followed the simple breakfast, we checked out of the cabin and made our way back to the port. Subsequently, we had lunch at a restaurant nearby before being transported back to the capital city.

As mentioned in one of the posts earlier, my BFF and I actually reserved a private table without any additional charge. The amount of food prepared for us could definitely feed more than two people. While the food was included in the tour, the mocktail wasn't.

Soup Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 7.5/10

The bowl of soup featured carrot bits and what seemed like peeled mung beans to me. It tasted pretty mild, but good enough for a start.

Squid Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

The crunchy squid pieces were stir-fried with onions that were lusciously sweet, dusted with a lot of pepper as a finishing touch.

Clam Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

While the meat of the bivalve mollusk species was small, it was fresh. The zesty pineapple bits made the dish enjoyably refreshing.

Chicken Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

I relished the adequately tender fried chicken, which batter comprised not just flour, but also shredded coconuts that brought out an appetising aroma.

Skewer Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 5.5/10

It was regrettable that the skewered chicken suffered a different fate, for it was somewhat dry. I did finish it, but its taste was more or less passable.

Potato Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 7.5/10

The lightly salted fried potatoes were slightly better than those served onboard on the first day of the tour.

Vegetable Dish (Set Menu)
Taste: 7/10

The stir-fried cabbages and carrots were nothing fantastic, but definitely carried more than enough dietary fibres for us.

Pineapple (Set Menu)

The fruit was quite sweet, but a bit too dry for my liking.

Ha Long Sunrise 70,000₫ (~S$4.35)
Taste: 8/10

A concoction of orange juice, lemon juice and grenadine syrup, the non-alcoholic beverage was a good thirst quencher. The sweet and lightly tart syrup, prepared from pomegranate juice, was balanced in taste by the two citrus species. Pika's advice: If you prefer pineapple juice to orange juice, you may want to try their Pussy Foot for the same price.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Overall: 7/10

Despite it being such a short trip, I've had fun cruising at Ha Long Bay. A big thanks goes to the crew members of the cruise and the rest of the people onboard that have really made the trip enjoyable!
