FRA: Air France AF209 (Economy)
Two meal services: a full-course early dinner and a simple breakfast~
After a rather brief layover at Sint Maarten, my BFF and I bade farewell to the Caribbean. We flew back to Europe, transiting at Paris, France with Air France before continuing our journey. Let's take a look at the food and beverage service during the flight with a scheduled duration of 8 hours and 20 minutes.
I was expecting a menu card, but there wasn't any.
AF Meal #1
Rice Salad - Taste: 7/10
Sitting on a bed of lettuce was long-grain rice mixed with corn kernels and bell peppers. It was mildly savoury with a tinge of sweetness from the vegetables. I felt that it could be moister though.
Chicken Stew with Mashed Potatoes - Taste: 8/10
The chicken stew was delectable, for the white meat was tender and the brown gravy was pretty tasty. The mashed potatoes were velvety enough, but not that milky. The carrot slices weren't overcooked.
Salmon Penne - Taste: 6/10
While the vegetarian penne dish served onboard KL735 was really appetising, the salmon penne couldn't beat that. While it tasted alright, the salmon flakes were rather dry. The peas helped to provide a bit of moisture to the dish.
Orange Sponge Cake - Taste: 8/10
Since I like anything that's orange-flavoured, sinking my teeth into the adequately moist sponge cake turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It might not look good at all, but it was certainly the case of the famous idiom: don't judge a book by its cover.
Bread
I didn't quite enjoy the bread as it was rather dry and hard.
Others
Besides a rather thick wedge of brie cheese, there was a small packet of pizza-flavoured crackers.
Beverages
I didn't recall seeing a lot of varieties apart from the usual selections of juices and soft drinks. There were small plastic bottles of red and white wine, but I didn't get any. Instead, I had Coca-Cola and a cup of tea at the end of the meal. Each tray came with a bottle of mineral water.
AF Meal #2
Croissant & Bun
Served on the very simple breakfast tray were a bun that was fluffier than the one served previously and a croissant that was quite buttery, but not crispy. They came with butter and grape jelly.
Fruit Compote
Consisting of three fruits with the same first letter: papaya, pear and pineapple cubes, the compote was adequately sweet. I was hoping for it to be chilled, but it was apparently served at cabin temperature.
Beverages
I had a cup of coffee with a bit of milk, which was aromatic enough for my liking. My BFF had a cup of tea (not shown).
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 9/10
Overall: 7.5/10
Service was pretty awesome, thanks to the friendly flight attendants who are really taking pride in their work. Pika's advice: Feel free to go to the galley to grab some non-alcoholic drinks on your own. I also saw ice cubes being provided.
