SIN: Day and Night Bistro {CLOSED}

Pork belly on top of fries!

UPDATE (03/11/2019): The eatery has closed down.

Tucked in a rather quiet street in Tiong Bahru, Day and Night Bistro ironically only opens after 5.00pm daily. Besides offering some tapas (small savoury dishes typically served with drinks) to go with drinks, the bistro offers burger, pasta and pizza dishes for those who need something more substantial.

The idea of putting deep-fried pork belly on top of a bed of fries may sound rather bizarre to some of us.

Pork Belly S$10.00
Taste: 8/10

I did buy the idea though, especially when I saw on the menu that maple mayonnaise would be provided as an accompaniment. Even though I'd prefer crispier fries, the pork belly was pretty succulent and bursting with goodness. The sauce was sweet, savoury and fragrant at the same time.

Prawn Linguine S$18.00
Taste: 7.5/10

Topped with cherry tomatoes and rocket leaves, the linguine was al dente. The saffron cream sauce tasted rather mild for my liking, and actually there was barely enough of it mix thoroughly with the pasta. There were four prawns, all of which were fresh and bouncy.

Day and Night Burger S$20.00
Taste: 8/10

The recommended burger featuring juicy homemade beef patty done medium, along with melted cheddar cheese, rocket leaves and tomatoes, was delectable. I couldn't really sense any fragrance from the so-called truffle mayonnaise, but I wasn't expecting much to begin with. Once again, the fries could be executed better.

Honey Earl Grey Cake S$5.00
Taste: 8.5/10

As the cake of the day seemed like a delicious choice, I went for that. True enough, it was a delight to have, especially when I could taste both the honey and the earl grey tea that went into the making of the cake at the same time. Not overly sweet, the cake had a soft and moist texture.

Signature Drink S$5.00
Taste: 8/10

Looking for something healthy after having all the sinful stuff? How about trying their signature blend of chye sim (Chinese mustard green), pineapple juice and sour plum? It didn't taste that raw for me, and it actually grew even more refreshing with every sip.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

I've actually gone to the bistro twice. I only had a main course on my second visit though, which isn't featured in this post. Pika's advice: For those who love O'Hara's Irish Stout and/or Sapporo Beer, the bistro offers a discount on both every Monday.
