SIN: Barossa
Enjoyable 250 g slab of beef from Toowomba!
Describing itself as a restaurant-cum-bar where "outback meets chic", Barossa is famous for its triple Bs: beef, burger and beer. Located at Esplanade Mall, it takes pride in preparing premium beef dishes using the red meat flown from Australia. My BFF and I dined at the al fresco area with the view of Marina Bay.
How about making a guess which part of beef did I order?

Grilled Chicken Wings S$16.00
Taste: 8/10
To begin with, I tried the grilled chicken wings that appeared to be well-glazed. They made a good appetiser as they were succulent and luscious. Served in a small saucer on the side were pickled onions that were piquant enough for my liking. Pika's advice: As the menu has changed a little bit, do note that the chicken wings are now served with BBQ sauce instead of the pickled onions.
Smoked Duck Linguine S$25.00
Taste: 6.5/10
I tried the one and only pasta dish that's annotated as chef's recommendation on the menu. Besides the fact that the pasta was al dente, the smoked duck slices and mushrooms were juicy. It was no doubt a tasty dish, but the gravy was a tad too rich. Thankfully, I was sharing it with my BFF, so I didn't get too cloying.
Toowomba Black Striploin S$38.00
Taste: 8/10
Flown from Toowomba in the state of Queensland, the 120 days grain-fed striploin cooked to medium was adequately tender with a healthy amount of fats. I had a preference for the tangy peppercorn brown sauce over the rather runny béarnaise sauce (French sauce made of clarified butter emulsified in egg yolks).
Double Chocolate Cake S$12.00
Taste: 7.5/10
I'd harboured high hopes for the dessert. While it looked nice with a glimmer of gold leaf as a garnish, it wasn't as chocolatey as expected. Nevertheless, it tasted good without being overly sweet. The cake came with strawberries and blueberries dusted with castor sugar.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10
Looking around, we were probably the only people who didn't order alcoholic beverages that evening.
