SIN: Hilton Singapore [Breakfast]

Just ask for more chocolate danish!

Hilton Singapore (5*) is the hotel in which I had my last staycation during Singapore's Phase 2 of Reopening. I have to say straight away that even though the hotel seems to be quite proud of its so-called Hilton Breakfast, it was nothing fanciful and could certainly be much better in quality and perhaps quantity too.

The hotel allocates 45 minutes per table, although it didn't seem to be strictly enforced during my stay as the hotel wasn't fully booked. Each guest is entitled to one breakfast set with free-flow continental selections.

Signature Hilton Breakfast Set

Omelette, over-easy, poached, sunny-side up or scrambled eggs for you? Don't bother with the scrambled eggs; at least what I had wasn't moist and velvety enough. The pork bacon strips were dry, but thankfully the chicken sausages and hash brown were alright. Also, it was a rather meagre amount of baked beans, I must say. Pika's advice: For the health-conscious ones, you may want to go for egg white omelette instead, which is served with baby spinach, roasted tomatoes and sautéed mushrooms.

Asian Breakfast Set

Topped with ginger strips, fried shallots and spring onions, the fish congee was decent, made better with chopped century eggs and braised peanuts. I wonder why did they bother to serve two thin slices of you tiao (lit. Chinese cruller) though. Besides that, it was a pity that the chicken and shrimp steamed dumplings were of low quality.

Assortment of Freshly Baked Pastry

I was glad that the croissant was pretty flaky and buttery, while the blueberry muffin was pretty good too. The pastry stuffed with chocolate hazelnut spread, as well as the one filled with banana, wasn't as exciting though. To my delight, when I requested for another croissant, it came with a perfectly crispy chocolate danish that was so, so satisfying.

Seasonal Fresh Cut Fruits

Served in a cup was a mix of watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew, strawberries and grapes. Save for the grapes, they were adequately fresh and sweet.

Homemade Bircher Muesli

The texture of the muesli soaked overnight with milk, cream, yogurt and honey wasn't as soft and creamy as expected. I also thought it could be slightly sweeter.

Coffee & Pineapple Juice

The black coffee wasn't that strong, but at least it didn't leave an acidic aftertaste. I also had a glass of chilled pineapple juice that was a tad too sweet for my liking.
