SIN: Duckland

"No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for duck."

Managed by the TungLok Group, Duckland is a chain of restaurants that specialises in, no prize for guessing, duck dishes. The Irish ducks are imported from Silver Hill Duck, a premium duck producer located in the lush green hills of Emyvale in Ireland. My friend and I really enjoyed the dinner with impeccable service at the PLQ Mall branch.

The menu booklet features some words of wisdom along the likes of the one mentioned above and "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single duck".

Roast Irish Duck (Half) S$36.00
Taste: 8.5/10

I've got to be honest that it was my first time having Irish duck, which was accompanied by yellow mustard, raspberry sauce, calamansi chili sauce and soy sauce sweetened with a bit of brown sugar. The meat was tender and juicy. I found the raspberry sauce to be particularly unique.

I was also amazed at the glorious skin that was adequately crispy with a layer of fats, which tantalised my taste buds. The yellow mustard certainly helped to cut through the fats. Pika's advice: If you're averse to dealing with bones, you can get your half a duck deboned for S$6.00. For me, I definitely won't want to spend money for that.

Steamed Duck Rice S$2.00
Taste: 7/10

For some carbohydrates, I ordered a plate of steamed rice that was made slightly fragrant with the addition of duck fats and a bit of spices. Mixed with some sweet kernels, the rice could be fluffier in my opinion.

Duck Confit and Waffle S$20.85
Taste: 8.5/10

I also had a taste of the duck confit that was delicious. The duck leg, which was seasoned well and had addictively crispy skin, was wholesome. It was sitting on a bed of buttermilk waffle that was enjoyably fluffy and crispy too. As for the poached egg, the egg white was slightly overcooked, but thankfully the yolk was still runny.

Whiskey Cake with Ice Cream S$10.85
Taste: 9/10

The dinner ended on a high note with two pieces of chocolate cake made special with the infusion of whiskey. Dusted with castor sugar, they turned out to be so alcoholic that my heart was singing with joy. Accompanying them was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a few berries and caramel drizzle.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 9/10
Overall: 8.5/10

It's been so long since I've given such a high score for service. I really thank the genuine and lovable elderly woman who served us. She also told us that there was no need to be shy to ask for more sauce or maple syrup. In addition, I had a nice interaction with the cashier. I'll be back soon.
