SIN: RedRing Teriyaki Grill

Super addictive fried shallots with chili!

It all began with my NUS Chemistry senior's dream of becoming a hawkerpreneur, a scientific one, obviously. Before leaving for Stanford University in California, the USA to do his PhD, Roy Chan came up with RedRing Wanton Mee, which I've actually never reviewed here. RedRing Teriyaki Grill is a spin-off from that with a stall located near home at Chinatown Point.

Teriyaki Chicken Garlic Rice S$5.00
Taste: 8.5/10

I've ordered this particular dish so many times, and it's always been satisfying. I enjoy the fluffy egg fried rice mixed with a bit of garlic. The fried shallots mixed with chili are to die for; they're not that spicy, but crunchy and moreish. Brushed with a bit of sweet sauce, the chicken slices are typically tender. Pika's advice: You can get a sunny-side up egg with runny yolk for an additional $0.50.

Teriyaki Double Salmon Garlic Rice S$8.50
Taste: 6.5/10

I've only tried the salmon once, and it wasn't particularly memorable. The two slices of salmon were by no means bad, but not as value-for-money as their chicken counterpart as they were rather thin. They were seasoned with a bit of black pepper before being brushed by the sweet sauce, which happened to be lacking that day.

Chicken Cutlet Noodle S$6.00
Taste: 6.5/10

I wasn't impressed with the thin noodle either. Although it was somewhat springy, it was quite dry. Having said that, the chicken cutlet was pretty delicious and not greasy. Just like in the other dishes, there were some crunchy chye sim (Chinese mustard green).

The saving grace was the brown-coloured broth that was delectably sweet. I drizzled a little bit into the box to moisten the noodle.
