SIN: Refuel Café

Homemade citrusy iced tea: a perfect thirst quencher!

I chanced upon Refuel Café while looking for an air-conditioned lunch spot after walking around Bedok Reservoir to escape from the afternoon heat. Established in 2014, Refuel Café serves all-day brunch menu among others. What began as a humble neighbourhood spot has since grown with additional outlets at Bukit Merah and Yishun.

While their branches at Bukit Merah and Yishun share largely similar menu, the original outlet offers a slightly different selection.

Maple Garlic Wings S$12.90
Taste: 7/10

I just had to order the wings the moment I spotted the dish on the menu as it sounded like the kind of sweet-savoury indulgence that'd be hard to say no to. Topped with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions, the wings were coated in a garlicky maple syrup glaze with a hint of spiciness. They were juicy, though I was expecting a more garlicky profile.

Fuel Me Up S$16.50
Taste: 8/10

The baked eggs blanketed in a layer of melted cheese arrived at the table piping hot, promising a hearty, comforting meal. They were paired with a rustic mix of pork meatballs, mushrooms, bacon slices and bell peppers, all simmering together in tangy tomato sauce. The accompanying crunchy toast was perfect for dipping into the sauce.

Banana Pancakes S$15.50
Taste: 8.5/10

A dish that delivered more than its simple name, the pancakes were topped with not only banana slices, but also pistachio crumbs. Being light and fluffy, they were a delight to have with slightly salted butter and maple syrup. I also enjoyed the creamy scrambled eggs with a crack of black pepper, along with the fresh salad that provided a refreshing lift to the plate.

Fuel Iced Tea S$6.50
Taste: 8.5/10

It sure didn't look like tea at first glance, but rest assured, such a beautiful hue was a testament to its robust flavour. Infused with fresh lemon and lime juice, the foamy iced tea was the thirst quencher I needed with a nice balance of sweetness and acidity. Pika's advice: There are other specialty iced beverages that may entice you, such as Honey Lemon Espresso Fizz and Iced Pu-erh Cream Cheese, both priced at S$7.50.

Melon's Rating

Indeed, it's a nice place to refuel after whatever activities you do at Bedok Reservoir.
