IDN: Artotel Jakarta [Breakfast]
Rely on the salad and yogurt only...
An boutique hotel inspired by art, the eponymous Artotel Jakarta (3*) is what I consider to be within a walking distance to Grand Indonesia, one of the largest shopping malls in Southeast Asia. That also means it isn't far away from the historical Selamat Datang Monument in the heart of the capital city along the main avenue of Jalan M. H. Thamrin.
Assorted Stuff #1
The salad was worth taking as the leafy vegetables were fresh, with the black olives and cherry tomato being juicy. The cold chicken ham made it even more substantial.
Assorted Stuff #2
There wasn't anything to complain about the porridge topped with shreds of chicken, you tiao (Chinese cruller) and spring onions. The rest of the items on the plate, however, was quite terrible. The skin of the shrimp and chicken dumplings was so thick and sticky, while the bacon was completely dry.

I suppose the whole thing looked quite messy. Anyway, the fried rice and noodle were dry. Equally so were the spicy chicken and fish dish. Besides that, the sayur lodeh (Indonesian vegetables cooked in coconut milk) were soggy. The two items on the plate that I enjoyed were the grilled chicken cooked with Indonesian sweet soy sauce and the crackers.
Chocolate Danish & Yogurt
The danish actually had a good chocolate filling, but it wasn't crispy at all. The cherry yogurt, in fact, was one of the better items in the buffet spread.
Fruits
The fruits were cut nicely. While the watermelon and honeydew slices were sweet, the papaya slices weren't so fresh. The pineapple slices could be cleaned better.
Kiwi & Orange Cordial Drink
Not surprisingly, both flavours tasted very artificial, not to mention that they were overly sweet.

Taste: 5.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Overall: 6.5/10
Pika's advice: I don't know, but I'd suggest exploring the city to find potentially good breakfast out there. That aside, the design of the hotel is pretty cool. It also has its own art gallery on the second floor. The picture below shows how the building looks like.
