UAE: Oryx Hotel [Breakfast]

Free-flow of energising lemon mint juice!

In Abu Dhabi, the UAE, my BFF and I stayed at Oryx Hotel (4*) situated not far from Al Khalidiya Park and Corniche Beach in the downtown area. Buffet breakfast is served every morning at the topmost floor of the hotel, which offers a panoramic view of the city.

Assorted Stuff #1

I started my day with a piece of flatbread to go with hummus (Levantine mashed chickpeas), which could be more velvety. I also took some of the cold cuts, which were pretty good. There were fresh and pickled vegetables. The latter were too sour for my taste buds though.

Assorted Stuff #2

Most of the cooked items were pretty simple in nature. Preserved food aside, there were sautéed mushrooms and curried vegetables that went well with the fragrant long-grain rice. In addition, I took a scoop of foul (Middle Eastern dish of cooked broad beans) that could be less mushy.

Pastry & Cake

A variety of pastry was presented on the buffet table. I took a croissant topped with za'atar (Middle Eastern mixed herbs and spices) and a custard danish. Both the sweet and savoury items weren't crispy, but tasted nice. It was a pity that the fruit cake was rather dry.

Fruits & Yogurt

I saw fresh and canned fruits being offered for breakfast. The watermelon slices weren't that sweet, but the orange and grapefruit were luscious. I also took a pineapple slice and a lychee to mix with the yogurt infused with cherries.

Coffee & Fruit Juice

The black coffee was adequately aromatic. The lemon juice infused with mint was refreshing without being overly sweet. While the watermelon juice was freshly squeezed, it was rather lacking in natural sweetness.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 6.5/10

It was certainly nice to see the dining area being decorated for Christmas, no matter how simple it was. Pika's advice: To those who love sandwiches, I saw quite an array of those being displayed on the buffet line.
