UAE: Shish Shawerma
"The most unique 'shawerma' taste that's unmatched anywhere"?
Founded in 2011, Shish Shawerma aims to "offer a high-end quality of shawerma" (Middle Eastern grill of thinly sliced meat) with style. At the point of writing, there are three branches in the UAE and another three in Oman. My BFF and I visited the pioneer outlet, which is a stone's throw away from Oryx Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking of Oman, I've been wanting to visit the sultanate, but still haven't had the chance to.

Flatbread
As with many other eateries in the Middle East, flatbread pieces are served gratis. I took one of them, which I found to be soft and pillowy as it wasn't very thin.
Labneh and Za'atar Manakeesh AED 9.00 (~S$3.30)
Taste: 8/10
The eatery offers value-for-money varities of manakeesh (Levantine pizza with various toppings) that are quite big in portion. I found the marriage between labneh (Middle Eastern soft, cream cheese made of strained yogurt) and za'atar (Middle Eastern mixed herbs and spices) to be delectable.
Hummus with Beef Shawerma AED 30.00 (~S$11.05)
Taste: 8/10
Sitting on a bed of velvety hummus (Levantine mashed chickpeas) were nicely grilled beef slices with smoky aroma that I was anticipating. The entire thing went well with the flatbread described earlier. This dish is actually listed under the appetiser section of the menu, but together with the flatbread, it can surely be a main course.
Chicken Kaakeh Combo Meal AED 35.00 (~S$12.90)
Taste: 7.5/10
Kaakeh is a type of stuffed Lebanese pastry that's quite thin. Topped with sesame seeds, Shish Shawerma's version wasn't special. The filling of chicken shawerma was quite tasty, but I had a preference for its beef counterpart. The lightly salted fries were adequately crunchy. A canned soft drink is also included in the combo meal.
Hawaiian Fruit Cocktail AED 21.00 (~S$7.75)
Taste: 6/10
If you're looking for something sweet, the eatery offers crêpes. However, since we were already feeling too full, we decided not to have any. Instead, my BFF ordered a fruit cocktail made of avocados and strawberries blended with milk. While having a nice consistency, it was a tad too sweet for my liking.
Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10
I'm not sure if the eatery really offers the most unique shawerma, but I can say that they're worth trying. Pika's advice: I saw quite a number of guests ordering 200 g Shawerma Platter that includes side dishes and a sauce of your choice. You may want to consider either the chicken or the beef option, each having the same price tag of AED 35.00 (~S$12.90).
