VIE: Vietnam Airlines VN662 (Economy) - 2nd

Second time's a charm? Probably not...

Hello again, everyone! Hope the month of June has been great for all of you. Little did I know that I'd be flying with Vietnam Airlines again to Hanoi, which is now a Skytrax 4 Star Airline. Click here to have a quick look at what I had during my first flight with VN662 in late 2014.

It turned out that there was no beverage service after take-off, which was somewhat disappointing.

VN Meal

Spicy Tuna Salad - Taste: 6/10

Sitting on a bed of adequately fresh lettuce leaves was a chunk of flaked tuna that was only very mildly spicy and could be moister. It also came with corn kernels and a cherry tomato that added colours to the dish.

Stir-Fried Beef with Rice - Taste: 6.5/10

One of the main courses featured for the early dinner service was stir-fried beef with oyster sauce. The beef slices were pretty tender, but the bok choy (Chinese cabbage) was overcooked and had become soggy.

Creamy Chicken with Mashed Potatoes - Taste: 7/10

The chicken main course fared better than its beef counterpart. One might guess that it was lemon sauce from the colour, but there wasn't anything lemony about it. The mashed potatoes were quite milky, while the accompanying vegetables weren't cooked too long.

Bread

The bread wasn't that soft, but it was by no means stale. Accompanying it was a pack of salted butter.

Fruits

To end the meal, I had a trio of papaya, honeydew and watermelon. Only the honeydew was lacking in natural sweetness.

Beverages

I only requested for a cup of orange juice. Hot beverages weren't served due to turbulence during the meal service, though the flight attendants could definitely follow up with that  afterwards as there was still more than enough time till arrival. Pika's advice: Red and white wines are available for Economy Class passengers, so do ask for a cup or two.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 6.5/10

For some reason, my virgin experience with the airline back in 2015, when it was still a Skytrax 3 Star Airline, was somewhat better.
